Three workers from a contract mobile wash service clean new Montana Rail Link EMD SD70ACe No. 4302 being used in helper service on Mullan Pass. Even one trip through the Mullan Tunnel could coat these locomotives in helper service with a substantial amount of black soot and grime. Since this time, a tunnel enlargement project has alleviated some of this problem, but not all, since helping heavy trains up 2.2% grades and through the summit tunnel is always going to be a difficult and dirty job. Do clean locomotives look nicer, run better and last longer? Montana Rail Link seems to think so!
