MARC train #418, a Washington DC to Baltimore (Penn Station) MD train, is about to depart the station at New Carrollton, Maryland, on the last day of September 2013. MP36PH-3C 17 is on the point of this short (because the morning rush is over) 4-car train. Besides serving MARC, this station also serves Amtrak and, as can be seen by the subway cars in the foreground, is also the terminus of Washington DC's Metro Orange Line.
From B&O RDCs to MARC bilevel coaches pulled by electric locomotives and diesels, the Maryland commuting scene has evolved, while trolleys, aka light rail vehicles, are back.
