Bell ringers I’m sure they were great locomotives, but the thing I remember when I see this shot, is the amazing sounds emulating from these Montreal-built hoods. Burbling, hissing, and other indescribable noises filled the air. And No. 4242 had a constant loud bell ringing in the cab, crying for some attention no doubt. Between runs, CP Rail Montreal Locomotive Works (essentially Canadian-built Alcos) M636 No. 4735 and C424 No. 4242 rest at Bensenville, Illinois, on February 9, 1992. They may have been bell ringers by this time, but they sure looked nice and were great to photograph!
