It was quite a challenge to keep my footing in the wet heather as I stood some 80 or 90 feet above the track at Gowhole cutting awaiting the passage of the 'Tin Bath' special. One of the year's steam highlights, the special runs a circular route through some of Northern England's most beautiful scenery. Abounding in steep gradients, long tunnels, spectacular viaducts and other monuments to the navvies work. I have no idea why the 'Tin Bath' special should be so named and even less idea why the headboard actually carried was for 'The Jacobite'! No matter, the spectacle was wonderful.
