For many months, the ex-CofG Columbus, GA-Birmingham main was out of service north of Childersburg, and traffic was down to just a pair of long-range locals that reached B'ham via ex-Southern lines. In 1997 traffic began to return, as shown in this shot of an eastbound at Opelika.
