Remarks & Notes |
The very first train to arrive in Austin came on Christmas day 1871 with much celebration. That day paved the way for Austin to become the metropolis it is where freight trains play second fiddle to commuter rail. It's now late on Christmas eve and most crews have quietly headed home for the holiday. The yard is strangely calm for a change, at this time of night operations are normally in full swing as crews are challenged to move freight through a small window of time they are allowed to work with. No noise....no trains, just AWRR and BNSF power sitting idle on the pit track. |
