Despite the NS paint scheme, this former Southern Railway GP38-2 still sports the distinctive features of a unit that proudly "Served the South." The high mounted bell--similar to the way Southern preferred its bells to be mounted on its steam power, high short hood (the other end in this case), and long hood-forward orientation are all distinctive Southern features. This evening, the veteran unit sits in wait for work train service the following week. With Christmas near, MofW forces are in retreat.
