QNS&L SD70ACe #504 is one part of a 7-unit order for the Iron Ore hauler in Quebec built in December 2009.
QNS&L 504 and 505 were taken out toward the 'Y' on this chilly Canadian December afternoon. This pair of units was rolled out to this area for a more colorful photo opportunity rather than those in the EMD London test area.
The QNS&L SD70ACe units all feature single red markers mounted just above the windshield on the front and in the rear upper corners. In the front portion of the cab is a unique antenna platform and these were the first units to use the EMD type roof mounted antenna package. The radiator fan housing is 'super-insulated' compared to any other SD70ACe/ M-2 in service. Finally, these units have multiple roof top antennas, strobe light, icicle breaker protection around the air horn and many other details that make this colorful group of locomotives quite attractive to photograph.
This locomotive was manufactured, assembled and painted at the Electro-Motive Diesels plant in London, ONT CANADA.
Brass models of this locomotive will be offered by Overland Models Inc at www.overlandmodels.com.
