The 3 SDP40Fs are now in California, having crossed the Colorado River from Topock, Ariz. The train is essentially ex-Santa Fe Super Chief and El Capitan cars, and it was during this winter of 1973-74 that ATSF disallowed Amtrak to use the Super Chief name any longer. This very late running No. 3 could actually have been the Southwest Limited on this Dec. 5, 1973.
