In a rare color action shot from the late '40s, photographer Bill Clark captured an L&N K-3 Pacific--number 209--doubleheaded with 2-8-0 number 1219 on this southbound (actually, heading westward, into the evening sun here) run on the ex-Louisville, Henderson & St. Louis subdivision toward Evansville. The line was (and still is) referred to as the "Texas," since that state was once part of the predecessor company's geographically ambitious title. The white flags are out for this unscheduled "extra." Consistent with operating rules and practices of the era, the headlight is not illuminated during daylight running.
