| There is something gloriously dramatic about an express steam locomotive racing ahead of a threatening weather front. So it was at Burton Salmon as 'Duchess of Sutherland' headed south returning from York with a special from Tyseley. She has just diverged off North Eastern metals onto the old 'S&K' (Swinton & Knottingley) route opened by the Midland and Great Central Railways in 1879 to provide a more direct route between York and South Yorkshire. |
