Hidden in the hills of West Virginia is the Durbin Rocket, one of the treasures of American steam railroading. Built to haul heavy loads up steep grades, the former Moore-Keppel & Co. #3 now enjoys a life of luxary hauling tourists along a 6 mile stretch of the former C&O Durbin Branch along the Greenbrier River from Durbin, WV to the current terminus at Piney Island.
#3 is a 55-ton Climax type geared steam locomotive, built in 1910. She is currently one of three examples of this type of locomotive left in operable condition today.
