Weverton, MD 3/5/2012 - How CSX makes money: Westbound Q-416 is leaving Brunswick yard bound for Cumberland, MD with just seven cars behind four locomotives (some presumably offline). The Richmond-to-Cumberland manifest freight is trailing just 30 minutes behind Q-400, also a Richmond-to-Cumberland run that will arrive at the same classification terminal likely mere moments before Q-416 arrives with its very short haul of freight cars. Why the two trains weren't simply combined in Brunswick probably has to do with crew agreements and the positioning of locomotive power, but makes for an interesting thought about resource allocation and schedule management. In the background, a pair of SD-40-2 helpers drift into the yard behind 150 loaded coal hoppers on their way to Baltimore.
