One Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trainset per day runs from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo, avoiding the more common segment from San Diego to L.A. This is also the only trainset not made up of EMD F59PHI diesels and Alstom hi-level passenger cars. On January 22, 2011, Amtrak train #799 threads its way through the Chatsworth Rocks on its way north, with a pair of GE Dash 8-32BWH diesels (507 on the point, and 510 on the rear) and a mix of older Amfleet and Horizon Fleet cars, along with a privately owned car (painted for the Southern Pacific) just behind the lead engine. The train is just about to duck into the first of the two tunnels here, as it departs Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley crosses the Santa Susana Pass to enter the Simi Valley.
