Southbound RF&P TOFC hotshot No. 175 was blasting through downtown Milford, VA on a cold Feb. 23, 1985, led by GP40-2 No. 147. The train was passing what would have been known at "MD" Tower. "Would have" is the operative term here. Constructed in 1949, by the time the tower was completed, CTC was being installed. The tower was never manned. Like many RF&P towers, it remained to house the signal equipment for the interlocking. The RF&P cars to the right were retired, stored, and awaiting a rise in scrap prices. Soon they would be making their last trip, south to the Peck Iron and Metal scrap yard in South Richmond.
