This is the double switchback called Zig-zag Abajo and Zig-Zag Arriba. Abajo means down or below, and Arriba means up or above. These switchbacks are the only ones on the Oroya to Cerro de Pasco line, a line that travels constantly at high altitudes, on the high plains of Junin, right behind the Andes range.

The train is climbing the line. Thus the picture shows it going backwards, on the short section between the Zig-Zag Abajo switch (on the lower left corner) and the Zig-Zag Arriba switch (on the upper right corner of the picture).
