Inspired by Jeremy Plant's recent and awesome views at Joliet, I offer this view for RP.Net viewers. Built for the Chicago & Alton in March 1945, GM&O 103A is still sporting its original number and doing what God and EMD intended for it to do... pull passenger trains. Indeed, it was a real treat to see this elderly lady in charge of the southbound Prairie State on "home" rails and more than two years after the startup of Amtrak. Within a minute after I snapped this Kodachrome with my father's old Argus C3 camera, the train was off to St. Louis. And while the sight of this engine may have been "old-hat" to the locals along the route, this 17-year-old from Michigan was delighted to see and photograph his first GM&O locomotive!
