The "outbound" 2011 Kentucky Derby train heads east between Louisville and Danville on a spectacular Monday morning. The train should have passed through here Sunday afternoon but was delayed by major track damage - and a minor derailment - caused by a broken wheel on steel train 61A. While obviously an unfortunate nuisance for NS to contend with, it did allow a rare opportunity to document the derby train under desirable conditions - something we're not used to here in Kentucky. For once the Louisville District has been blessed with a derby train running east in the morning, in perfect light, on a stellar day!
