Remarks & Notes |
On my first visit to the Baltimore area I spent a good half day in the Canton area on the east side of the harbor exploring the maze of industrial trackage. While Baltimore is rightfully known as a CSXT town due to its long lineage of B&O and WM operations the NS has a not insignificant presence of its own. The NS operations center around Bayview Yard and include several secondary lines all of which are of Conrail and Pennsy heritage. Here a striking pair of back-to-back consecutively numbered GP38-2s pause at the Newkirk St. grade crossing on the edge of NS's Canton Yard before heading light to spend their day working the Dundalk Marine Terminal. The matched pair (5670 & 5671) are of NW and SOU heritage respectively and were rebuilt in 2007 from high nose GP38ACs. |
