I sometimes get carried away and this will probably be one of those instances. For those wanting the short story, this is westbound Ann Arbor Train No. 501 rounding a curve east of Benzonia, MI on June 18, 1981 with four GP35s. As for the longer version, I had always heard rumors of Ann Arbor's financial and physical condition. Ann Arbor was one of those railroads that I just automatically fell in love with. I can't explain it. Between the car ferries and the "hand to mouth" existence, it just amazed me. Standing in the weeds east of Benzonia, MI, I expected the train to slowly rock and roll by. Such was not the case. No. 501 rounded the curve with a vengeance and I stood back in awe. "Annie" might have had her woes, but they weren't displayed here on that day. Unfortunately, No. 501 was the only chase I ever had on the AA, for 21 too short miles, from Thompsonville to Elberta.
