| The Fires of Hell: The Z-CHCSSE9, one of the hottest trains on BNSF's Northern Transcon, seems to have set the inside of Cascade Tunnel aglow from its passage. In truth, the train's headlights are back-lighting a cloud of exhaust left in the tunnel after the passage of the eastbound Empire Builder. Enough light remains in the sky during the "blue hour" after sunset that the sign above the portal remains perfectly legible late on this still-wintry spring evening. |
