Monticello Railway Museum's Illinois Central GP11 8733 makes a fine sight as it shoves away from the museum grounds with storage tank cars, after a museum crew set out the IC 6071, donated by CN recently.
The CN has donated Illinois Central SD40-2r 6071 to the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois. The locomotive is shown on museum grounds after being picked up in interchange from the Norfolk Southern on Friday March 26, 2010.
IC 6071 is historic in that it started life as an Electro Motive Division test bed, the EMD 434, later sold to the Gulf Mobile & Ohio as it's 950. The locomotive is considered the prototype SD40, built on an SD35 frame in September of 1966.
The Monticello Railway Museum is accepting donations towards a cosmetic restoration of the engine, eventually to its GM&O livery!
