Remarks & Notes
An impressive plume of exhaust trails UP's Murdock to Kyune ballast train at the Thistle Tunnels in Spanish Fork Canyon. The 9504 ton train has 72 loads and a three unit manned helper pushing on the rear. These rails were part of a five mile track relocation that the Rio Grande completed in July 1983 to bypass a natural mudslide which buried the old right of way and dammed the Spanish Fork River submerging the small town of Thistle.
