Between Bonnievale and Ashton, the railway twists and turns through the foothills of the Langeberge (long mountains) on 1 in 40 grades and sharp curves. Known as the Bonnievale bank, this section was a real test for drivers and firemen in steam days, especially for westbound trains heading towards Ashton. This pair of class 35's are nearing the top of the long climb, working Rovos Rail's luxury safari train on its last run from George to Cape Town.
