CP #401 could be counted upon to be in the Cartier area mid-morning except Sundays and Mondays. While it was a morning westbound, the tracks across Northern Ontario make lots of twists and turns through the rugged landscape and with a little exploration you could find a spot to get good light on any train going in either direction at any time of day. 401 was the hot train from Toronto to Vancouver and as such was normally assigned a three unit set of SD40-2, or SD40's. This bright May morning finds 5699,5793,5505 blasting along with only 28 cars headed for the west coast.
