Amid minus-10-degree F temps, Amtrak's southbound Vermonter train 55 arrives Montpelier Jct., Vermont, while a New England Central GP38, 3855, holds the interchange siding with the Washington County Railroad.
The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
