Steams last chance on Mt. Washington.
Nigel Day had spent several years making improvements to locomotive #9 of Mt. Washington to make it more efficient. With Nigel at the throttle, this photo shows the culmination of the work. A bio-diesel fired locomotive with a Lempor exhaust and feedwater heater.
With it clear that the railway had no interest in pursuing steam any further, Nigel would return to Wales the next day, likely never to return to complete the work he started.
