Remarks & Notes
Railroading the old fashioned way. After spending most of the day hauling sold-out passenger trains, the crew of WW&F Forney #10 re-assembles her photo freight in the yard at Alna Center. Note the Brakeman riding the lead flat. Two-foot rolling stock is a tad more basic than what modern railroaders are used to. For one thing, there are no air brakes. The locomotive has its own steam brakes and the rest of the train is controlled the old fashioned way....by winding on hand brakes. The WW&F Museum also believes in 1920-era authenticity...meaning they don't carry radios. All signals are done with whistles, lights and the crewman's hands. Operating this way takes a total team effort, facilitated by good training. The museum takes great pride in both.
