Westward empty hoppers behind BNSF 6147 glide through an S curve west of Mullen in the vastness of the central Nebraska sandhills. Once a rural CB&Q branch, this line is a coal thoroughfare; whereas the old C&NW Cowboy line, some fifty miles to the north, didn't fare so well and is abandoned.
