| 'The Cornishman' was one of many titled trains, a publicity exercise that perpetuated the romance of railway journeys, especially those to more exotic parts of Britain. You might be forgiven for believing that an immaculate locomotive with copper-capped chimney, polished brasswork and chocolate and cream stock was a fantasy of preservationists. In fact it was an everyday sight in 50's & early 60's Britain. Oh how it's missed! |
