Remarks & Notes |
One of the few Camelback locomotives left in existence. This Baldwin 0-4-0 was built in 1903 and served for many years with the Reading Company. In 1962, she was acquired by the Strasburg Railroad and ran briefly there as their Number 4. Too light to pull their heavy tourist trains, the SRC loaned her to the RR Museum of PA where she spent several decades outside deteriorating as a static display. This photo depicts her in 2004 when she returned to the SRC property, with an eye toward a possible future restoration. She has since undergone some preliminary evaluations and disassembly, but any restoration effort will likely be years away. |
