When they were built from 1959 to 1966, the 5 electric locomotives Ae 8/8 of the BLS belonged to the most powerful of the world, with 8800 HP. Today all are withdrawn from service but one is still in operational condition. The train is seen on the 50 m high Luogelkinn viaduct near Hohtenn on the southern ascent to the Lötschberg tunnel.
