On the very last day of the 1970s decade, Long Island Railroad train #508 to Oyster Bay is being pulled by a diesel on the other end. This Alco FA1 is a Power Pack car, with its 244 prime mover running HEP only. It began life with the Spokane, Portland & Seattle. SPS 856A-2, SPS 857, BN 4102 - Built February 1949. This unit is now in Bridgeton, NJ being modified to accommodate an Alco 251 engine. The cars look to be a mix of Pullman Standard P72s and P75s, converted from 1950s/1960s MUs.
