Rolling up through Greenland, like millions of tons of coal have before. From this perspective, one can see the variant grades of the Joint Line clearly.

Now on the single-track portion of the Joint Line (though the old alignment is still there ... now a hike/bike trail), BNSF with a CP visitor prepare for the descent south toward Colorado Springs.

This is the summit, 8,015 feet above sea level, accomplished by 7300's lashup (front and back). Now for the ~2,000 foot descent into Cheyenne.

Approaching Otto on a frigid morning, UP 2549 coasts down Main 1, the original alignment over Sherman Summit.

Eastbound, coasting downhill after cresting Sherman Summit, a GE "heavy" holds back a freight as it heads toward a crew change in Cheyenne. The temperature is -8 degrees.

The southbound Texas Eagle, more-or-less on time, bends around a high fill between McGregor and Moody TX on a fine December afternoon. The next stop is Temple, TX, probably 20 minutes away.
