It was always a pleasure to see one of these as the lead unit. FP45's were fairly frequent visitors here at this time, but they were often not the lead locomotive.
A SD40-2, followed by 5 more units, roars up the 2% grade towards Amarillo.
ATSF GP39-2, is followed by a SD45-2B #5514 and ex-Amtrak SDF40-2 #5254 as they make their way towards Amarillo which is just a few more miles to the east.
A trio of SF30C's and a SD40-2 are led westbound from Amarillo by a SD45-2.
I just like the basic 40 a little better due to the balance of the whole thing. Drop a -2 cabinet in there and you've got a really great locomotive.

A B23-7 is helped along by a GP20u, hauling a local towards Amarillo, TX
A SF30C, making every bit of track speed, leads a GP40X, SD45 and a GP20u up a 2% grade towards Amarillo, TX
The old brick roundhouse seemed so out of place in Texas and thus far the "plastic surgeons" had not besmirched that classic EMD face.
