The Wadena local nears Halwey on its way west toward Dilworth in the late afternoon.

A westbound Z train rolls under the rural overpasses east of Hawley.

BN green glows in the late evening sun. It's going to be a shame to see these 40-2s get retired.

In low winter light, a Z train speeds around the curve at Hawley as it heads downhill to a crew change in Dilworth.

As the sun sets of a very cold Minnesota afternoon, long winter shadows are cast contrasting against a delightfully warm train as the firey sunset behind me makes for the final catch of the day.

Dashing through the snow, this westbound stack train has just passed under Highway 32 as it makes its way to Dilworth.

Finally... some non-coal action. Brrrrrrrr is all I think of when I look back on this shot. The frostnip was only painful for a few minutes.

SD70ACes were in high numbers along the Staples Sub this day... and it was darn cold too. This DPU pushes on coal loads as wind driven snow flurries around.

The trio of big burners are working hard lifting this loaded grain train out of the Red River Valley as they approach Hawley, Minnesota.
