The North Coast Hiawatha descends westward off Homestake Pass several miles east of Butte, MT. In 1974 this Amtrak service and a BN local freight were pretty much all that moved over this line.

It was a real treat to catch two Santa Fe cowl unit as the sole power of a train. SDP40Fu 5261 and F45 5956 round a big sweeping curve east of East Guam, New Mexico.
