The North Coast Railroad ran a group of trip from Willits to about 7 miles north of Willits on May 22, 1993. A GP9 was located at each end of the train to make the back and forth runs easy.

NWPY 171 sits behind the Petaluma depot durring the srping of 2001. For a few months in 2001, this locomotive would run to Schellville and back as needed, before the NWP was again shut down.
