Union Pacific's 4-8-4 Northern 8444 and 4-6-6-4 Challenger 3985 lead the restored passenger equipment eastbound toward Rock Springs, Wyoming. The train is returning from the Sacramento Railfair.

Though the "other" #8444 would have been a real oddity, the more modern version was still a nice find at the wye. The ubiquitous SD70ACe's are now UP's preferred hauler power in the LA basin.

Some smoke for the photographers, some due to Archer Hill, it makes for a nice show on an otherwise gloomy day.
