Fall, 1949, finds an Eastbound Denver and Rio Grande Western mixed train crossing the "high bridge" between Tacoma and Rockwood.

Early afternoon in the Rockies finds a Westbound (Northbound) Denver and Rio Grande Western passenger train crossing the Animas River just south of its final destination of Silverton.

After an early morning departure from Durango, the sun has finally cleared the mountains as the Rio Grande K-28 digs in for the climb into the Animas River canyon and on toward Silverton.

The Rio Grande's regular passenger train to Silverton has just crossed the Tefft Bridge and is now hugging the north back of the Animas River on this crystal clear fall day.

Winter 1950? This charter train has been repainted for the DRGW in the middle of the last century.
