This mixed freight catches all the low priority stuff. Today they are ferry power west for whatever reason.
With four units, one offline, this eastbound mixed freight has a speed limit of 30MPH but may have been making 20 at best as he heels into a curve east of town.
That is more like it! PC I mean. This commemorative is getting a bit ratty with a patina which is reminiscent of its namesake as it charges thru town leading a monster train at speed.

The local turn is a little overpowered today and running east in the morning, a good indications they “died on the law” somewhere last night.
Heeling into a curve, this intermodal is at the threshold to a suburb of the vast Tri Cities, VA/TN metropolis.
A shorter than usual train must have resulted in several DIT units on the front as the “gut” train rolls along just east of town. A foreign unit is very rare these days.

22A rounds the bend on the outskirts of Abingdon, Va.
NS V40, the Bristol/Rural Retreat turn, pulls into the siding at Abingdon to meet an eastbound on the return leg of their trip.
Looking huge and powerful a newly rebuilt unit storms thru our small town with a small train as the M of W equipment cowers on the siding.
A southbound freight passes the former Norfolk & Western depot at Abingdon. The house on the hill once housed railroad workers.
Late in the day the leader of the “Caitlyn” class roars through our small town headed for a crew change in Bristol.
