A pair of SP GEs power a UP intermodal train south on the Shasta Route. Before the UP acquired SP, GE locomotives were rare on the SP Oregon Division.

The temperature is only a few degrees above zero as a southbound manifest departs Klamath Falls. Over two years after SP has been acquired by UP, little change has come to the Shasta Route.

The southbound Swift RoadRailer is led by a CNW Dash 9 in spring 1999. After UP acquired SP, CNW power was common on Shasta Route intermodal trains.
