Destined for warmer climates, Amtrak's westbound Southwest Chief #3 dashes through blizzard conditions as it traverses Canyoncito, NM on a brutally cold winter afternoon.

The westbound Chief splits the signals at West Springer, the west end of CTC operations on the Raton Subdivision.

Splitting the blades, Amtrak's Southwest Chief #3 passes through an intermediate set of semaphore signals located just west of Chapelle, NM.

Out of LSV a few minutes behind schedule, #3 splits the 774.2 intermediates on its way west toward Lamy.
