The AAPRCO special heads west down the Rock Island through Tiskilwa.
A single engine speeds on by and under the bridge.
Only my second attempt at a zoom-pan - and I think it came out pretty good!
Just met with that ex-C&NW unit's train at the grade crossing. A younger railfan waves to the crew as the train passes.
The 2nd section of the usually once-daily train passes over Route 25 and the Fox River, headed from Ottawa, IL to BNSF's Eola Yard. All of the Illinois Railway's lines are old BNSF/BN/CBQ branches... (more)
Leap Day railfanning: UP's Troy Grove local has to wait for two BNSF coal trains to clear the diamond before the BNSF dispatcher allows it to proceed south.
A pair of rare visitors lead CNIKCK west in the late afternoon (around 3:45, but it seems so much later now...). The conductor gave me a look like he had never seen a railfan before.
While on the way to Ogilvie, we pass two MP36s in the north end of Union Station.
Stopped in Bureau to load/unload passengers.
"Spring: Now arriving on track one."
Some yard power sits motionless and shut down at the edge of the yard. They are attached to a gray IC caboose.
An ATSF SD45-2 along with a BN SD40-2 lead a mostly red Hyundai stack train west. Nice to see GOOD EMDs still being useful.
Note the large front porch of the SD40-2, on which the engineer and conductor can have a BBQ if their train ever had to make a stop in the desert. :)
Backing into Finkl Steel with flags flying overhead.
Hangin'.
