In the mid-1980’s, Guilford looked in all directions for used power. The Boston & Maine was the proud recipient of this ex-Conrail GP40, seen waiting for a crew in Allentown yard.
As Conrail retired the Alco road switchers that held many of the Lehigh Valley area local assignments, replacements came in the form of rebuilt GP8’s. Conrail 5458 began life as Erie GP7 1241.
