Passing a small pond.

Eastbound by a shallow pond that teems with carp this merchandise train is slowing for the many curves that punctuate the short narrows of Holston River’s Middle Fork.

Eastbound mixed freight winds through the many curves west of town. Apparently the railroad had to miss a bunch of sinkholes.

The lights of the inbound local train V40 cuts through the fog and continues east for Royal Building Products for a pickup.

Mixed freight 15T makes its way through the fading sunlight of Southwest Virginia as it makes its daily trek across the South.

Autumn leave excursion is headed west to Bristol. I guess we’ll not see any more unless Congress acts.

SOU #4501 & #3170 bring a Norfolk Southern excursion train past the N&W era CPL's at Schuleen near Marion,VA.

The gentleman who got caught at the crossing was in for a surprise as 4501 blasts through the outskirts of Marion. In an hour or so the first trips for 4501 in the 21st century would be completed.

On a chilly Sunday morning, Norfolk Southern's mixed freight 165 climbs the steep grade at "Schuleen" and continues west on the Pulaski District.

On a warm September night, the westbound 15T rounds the bend on Main 1 and lights the way past the classic Norfolk and Western CPL at "Marion" These signals are weeks away from being replaced.

As the day comes to an end, NS 201 glides by the CPL at Shuleen (still standing, for now!) as it continues west into the sunset.

The classic Norfolk & Western CPL at "Marion" stands tall and proud as the western sky gives way to a beautiful sunset.
