August 12, 2014. Running roughly 3 hours behind schedule, Amtrak’s westbound Southwest Chief #3 makes an appearance just outside of Galisteo, NM on an absolutely beautiful mid-August afternoon.

Just beginning its long journey to the west coast, the westbound Southwest Chief races through Westmont.

Amtrak 3, the Southwest Chief, glides into Blanchard, NM for a late meet with Amtrak 4. The SLSF "Cimarron River", chartered by the St. Louis NRHS, brings up the rear of the train.
