Fall color has dropped off of some trees, but other trees hold onto the green leaves as 17M runs down grade in the Tug Fork Valley
Pokey reroute 17M makes an appearance on the K&O just east of Harriman. This portion of the line runs along the foot of Walden Ridge which can be seen rising behind the train.
17M is fast becoming my favorite train. Here lately, it has had lots of power with a colorflul lashup.
I was just about to give up for the evening as the sun was fading fast. I was rewarded with an awesome lashup of color and power. Every railfan should find something they like in this combination.

Daily regular 17M leans into a sharp curve on the Pokey close to where WV, KY, and VA come together. The rugged stretch abounds in rock slide detector fences every few hundred yards.
After NS train M17 stalled south of Greensboro, NS train 213's power was sent to retrieve it. The four units from 213 and 2 units from M17 make an impressive sight as they head towards the yard.
