Happy National Train Day!
Amtrak's Silver Star brought an early birthday present today. I believe this is the first visit for this Phase 2 repaint in Florida.
Auto Train races through Seville in the morning.
Hurricane Florence disruptions gave us a truncated Sliver Star with a very rare leader. The last time I caught a Dash 8 leader here on Amtrak was June 6,2008 which is also in the database.
RARE MOVE Amtrak's bad day had 53's racks involved in a minor derailment up north. 53 went on without, while CSX after rerailing brought them the next day.
Amtrak 91 speeding through Seville bound for Tampa and Miami.
Amtrak had a bad day with a derailment of 53's auto racks up north the day before. While the passenger train was able to continue, the racks had to play catch up the next day.
The Silver Star slides through Seville Florida disturbing the quiet briefly. Of note the Dash 8 2nd motor, which is uncommon but not rare.
Amtrak's Silver Star has changed a bit over the years now without a diner and one less sleeper.
The Silver Star in western / rural Volusia county.
Very rare, a heritage motor leads Auto train south, though they have done it a few times in the other direction. Seen approaching Seville. The last time this happened with in 2013.
It's rare for Auto Train to be late, more rare is a heritage motor on this train. On the way north one of the P40's failed which resulted in a swap with 98, that had 184. Stuck on the way back.
My husband told me that an Amtrak heritage engine would lead Auto Train. That made me decide to take the afternoon yoga class instead of the morning one. First time I got this one.
Amtrak 53 races through rural Seville a few days after Amtrak's 44th birthday. After a week of unsettled weather we catch a spell of pleasant dry air, warm days and cool nights.
