This was the result of a broken rail - the chip cars were not very rugged and usually did not survive a derailment. For some reason the woodchips caught fire - likely from the torches used to cut... (more)
A clean and nearly new engine is on an eastbound in the late afternoon sunshine. One could smell the fresh paint as it went by.
The Grand Canyon Limited is southbound in the late afternoon light as both engines whistle for the crossing just behind me.
